The earliest reported news of the Risen Christ was from Mary Magdalene and the other Mary who ran to announce the news to Jesus’ disciples. They were “fearful and overjoyed.” Meanwhile, the chief priests cooked up a cover-up story saying that the disciples stole Jesus’ body while the Roman guards were asleep.
These two news stories portray a fork in the road in human history. Although cover up stories still exist, the story of the Risen Christ has prevailed. We have the opportunity to believe it and travel the road that Mary Magdalene, the other Mary, and Jesus’ disciples took, the road where Jesus met them on their way. That is the road that is calling to us today. It’s a road well worth traveling! It leads to life! “Fearful and overjoyed”, may we go down that road together bearing witness to the Risen Christ in our generation!
