Lepers and Wise Men? Who would have thought the light of the Epiphany would shine on both, so strategically close together in the liturgy? We’re tempted to assume there is some mistake in the choice of this Gospel for the Friday after Epiphany…
That is, until we step back and notice a single detail that draws this particular leper and these Magi together and makes them kindred spirits: their attitude in the presence of the Lord Jesus. Seeing Him, they fall prostrate. They bow down. They surrender themselves in faith. Their lives will never be the same, once touched by Him. And what of us? How have we allowed the grace of Christmas to change us?
Lord Jesus, Word-Made-Flesh, I bow my whole self before You. Come into my life. Touch me. Heal me. I believe.
