What does it cost to help a young man become a Dominican friar? How can you help form the next generation of preachers?
We just had a successful Come & See Weekend at our House of Studies in St. Louis. Fourteen young men for the Southern Province attended! Our student brothers provided hospitality, participated on panels, and gave talks. The Come & See Weekend is a great experience for young men looking to join our Order and begin formation as a Dominican Friar.
We are planning another Come & See Weekend in February, helping more young men to answer the call, but we need your help. This year's #iGiveCatholic goal for the Southern Dominican Province is to raise $14,000, to host a February Come & See for our candidates. We would like to be able to host another 14 (or more!) candidates, and you can be a part of it!
The average cost of the Come & See Weekend is $1000 per person. This includes transportation, two nights room and board, and materials. Won't you help sponsor our February Come & See Weekend? We would hate to turn a prospective candidate away due to lack of funds!
Once a young man has decided to apply to the Order, a major expense is the cost of the medical exams, averaging $1250 per applicant. Perhaps you'd like to sponsor a young friar's habit? The cost of a habit, including the belt and rosary, is $125.
Thanks to all of our benefactors for your generous support. You are helping men answer the call to be a Dominican friar, a preacher of God's word. We are grateful for any support you can give! Your support helps the next generation of Dominican friars hear the call of Christ. These young men will be formed as preachers, spreading the Gospel of Jesus. Some are called to be brothers, witnessing to religious and consecrated life in today's world. Some are called to be priests, celebrating the sacraments in the years to come.
