Today's readings remind us that our prayer can be crying out - crying out for shelter, for help, and for healing.
In the 1st reading, Isaiah promises shelter, protection, shade from the heat of the day and refuge from the storms in our lives. We can unite our prayer of petition with the sixty-five million refugees around the world that are fleeing from violence and seeking a safe home for their families.
The Gospel fills us with hope as we beg for healing in our bodies and broken hearts. Jesus healed the centurion's servant from a distance because of the man's faith. The centurion did not demand that Jesus go to his home but believed in his power to heal wherever. Let us trust in the marvelous and diverse ways that God heals us through the sacraments, through family and friends, and through silence.
"Let us pray for the grace to be able to listen to the cry of the poor. The cry of the poor is the Church's cry of hope." -Pope Francis
