August 5, 2024On August 3rd our Province’s most recent class of six novices made their Simple Profession into the hands of Fr. Roberto Merced, OP. Our Provincial then embraced each one in welcoming them to our Province and our Order. Fr. Roberto preached with an animated spirit of their call to always allow the Holy Spirit to conform themselves to Christ and reassured them not to be afraid, for in weakness, struggles, and challenges they would find consolation in their brothers and sisters and thus find answers together. In addition, the Provincial encouraged and affirmed their efforts in allowing the Dominican way of life to mold them into becoming the teachers, preachers, and caretakers of souls God calls them to become. Fr. Roberto spoke of their endurance and courage in taking the risk to profess Obedience, saying, “Profession is not for the faint of heart!”
The Profession took place at the Church of the Incarnation on the campus of the University of
Dallas. Members of the whole Dominican Family were present, as well as Jesuits, Cistercians, and
several members of the Missionaries of Charity, with whom these novices had ministered. Dr. Jonathan J. Sanford, President of the University of Dallas, Ms. Karen Bless, a campus ministry at the University, and a host of others dedicated to the community and apostolates of St. Albert the Great Priory and Novitiate were present.
Our brothers, Fr. Francis Orozco, OP, Master of Novices, Fr. Carl Joseph Paustian, OP, Director of Vocations, and Fr. Greg Dunn, OP, Chaplain of the Catholic Student Center at Texas Tech University, assisted in the joyous liturgy as well as the incoming six novices of the 2024-2025 class. Our Province of St. Martin de Porres is thriving in vocations by God’s grace and the steadfast work of our formators and all of our Province and friends who assist in fostering vocations.
One of our Southern Sisters, a native of Georgia, wrote a poem coming from her own deep faith and life of prayer and writing. The following is an excerpt from that poem:Dear God, tonight is not disappointing because you have given me a story.
