With profound sorrow and deep affection, the Dominican Friars of the Province of St. Martin de Porres share in the grief of the universal Church at the passing of our beloved Holy Father, Pope Francis.
We, the sons of Saint Dominic, join countless faithful around the world in mourning the loss of a shepherd who embodied humility, compassion, and steadfast faith. In both word and deed, Pope Francis bore witness to the love of Christ and invited us all into deeper communion with the Gospel.
In the days following Holy Week and the radiant joy of Easter, we were deeply moved to see the Holy Father for the final time in Saint Peter’s Square. It was fitting—and wholly consistent with his heart—that even in his final moments, he remained close to the People of God.
Pope Francis was a true shepherd after the heart of Christ. His ministry transcended borders and divisions, constantly directing us toward mercy, reconciliation, and hope. Through his example, he reminded us that joy is found in service, and greatness in humility.
The Church has lost a remarkable pastor, and the world, a luminous witness to the Gospel. May his soul rest in the eternal peace of Christ, the Good Shepherd, whom he served with such fidelity.
We entrust the Church to the guidance of the Holy Spirit in this time of mourning and transition, and we commend our Holy Father, Pope Francis, to the embrace of God's infinite mercy.
Requiem aeternam dona ei, Domine. Et lux perpetua luceat ei. Requiescat in pace.
