Mary and Joseph brought their baby, Jesus, to the Temple in Jerusalem. He was their firstborn and a male child. According to Jewish law, the first-born male children are to be dedicated to God and called holy. Dedication would include a sacrifice of two pigeons or two turtle doves or whatever else required by the Jewish law over such things.
The prophetess, Anna, lived at the same Temple where Jesus was dedicated. Day and night, she fasted and prayed to God, but on this day, the prophetess would do more. She shared with all who believed, that Jesus is the baby boy who would grow up to save Jerusalem.
As believers, the Eucharist is our daily union with Jesus Christ. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, devote time this Christmas season to meditate on what hope means to you.
