Wednesday, June 1, was the first full day of the Provincial Chapter. The first session was comprised of several reports. The first set of reports was on the health of the brothers who are currently ill, particularly Fr. James (Chief) McDonough, OP, Fr. Alberto Rodríguez, OP, Fr. Tuto Pérez, OP, and Br. Roger Schondel, OP. We continue praying for their needs.
Fr. Tom Condon, OP, as the outgoing Prior Provincial, gave his final report. Fr. Marcos Ramos, OP then delivered the Regent of Studies report. Lastly, Fr. John Dominic Sims, OP delivered the Syndic report. The capitulars expressed their gratitude for the service of these brothers in each of their offices.
At the first plenary session, all the friars took the Oath of Secrecy. The check-in list was presented by Br. Herman Johnson, OP, and approved by the chapter — everyone is present legitimately, by right, election, or appointment.
It was decided that there would be four Chapter Commissions:
1. Community Life
2. Finance and Development
3. Preaching: Mission & Ministry
4. Formation and Intellectual Life
Each Commission met and selected its chair and secretary.
The caucus process was revised and approved by the Chapter. The Chapter also scheduled the date and time for the election of the Prior Provincial. The election of the new Prior Provincial will be held on Saturday, June 4. The election result will not be announced until the Master of the Order has approved it. Please keep the friars at the Provincial Chapter in your prayers.
