Advent Reflection - Saturday of the Third Week of Advent

Elizabeth and Zechariah are signs that God does not withhold mercy from us. Doubting the words of the angel of the Lord, Zechariah could no longer speak. With the birth of their son and his naming, Zechariah experienced the mercy of God and was mute no longer.

Thus, Zechariah immediately praised God, to such a great degree that, filled with the Holy Spirit, he proclaimed the stunning prophecy we call the Benedictus, concerning his and Elizabeth’s son John and John’s mission. John would proclaim forgiveness of sins and bear witness to the Light.

The Light is here! It is the Light that enables us to reject the darkness of discouragement, anger, jealousy, a condemning heart, or any other force that can blind us to the Light. Hear the good news, reject the darkness, and accept the Light!
