Jesus is moved by compassion because of his nature as God. He’s attentive to the hungers of people, is aware of their weaknesses, and inspires the disciples to be actively attentive to their needs. Our Lord is never detached from human suffering and is always showing us about the proper way to act.
Jesus liberates us from all forms of slavery, the one who brings us salvation from sin and liberation in our body and soul. All this liberation is not foreign to our human desire for development, liberation and justice to all the poor and vulnerable. Jesus manifests in this Gospel passage his commitment to the liberation of all slavery, and the promise of an integral salvation for all women and men. Through his healing of all the sick and the nourishment of all the hungry, Jesus is giving us a profound message to ponder and practice as we start this Advent season.
Our world and our country are experiencing today millions of people with physical and spiritual hungers. And many of them are just in front of us, begging for food, shelter and solidarity. We are called to provide comfort to others in the midst of their difficulties. A loving presence could make wonders in giving the comfort of Christ to others in our world. Let us then share that food and liberation given to us by Christ to all the hungry and destitute that we encounter every day.
