January 2, 2021Today’s readings seem to focus on identity: Who is GOD? Who is Jesus? Who is John? And who are you?
It is GOD who grants our salvation, as the Psalm proclaims, He has done wondrous deeds, remembered His people, spoken to us through prophets and ultimately through His Son Jesus! John declares plainly he is not the Christ but calls us to prepare for His coming.
And we, who are baptized into Christ and live as He taught, are children of GOD! We are His witnesses here and now, called to share His good news with His people. That news is the promise of eternal life for those who believe in the Son and the Father who sent him. But those who reject the Son also reject the Father and clinging to what is false will lose the gift of eternal life.
So, who are you?
