Fr. Donald Thomas Dvorak, OP, was born on May 27, 1936, in Chicago, IL. He died in Irving, TX on May 18, 2022, just shy of his 86th birthday. Preceding him in death were his parents, Rose Sonja Souhrada and John Orville Dvorak. He is survived by his siblings, John Dvorak and Loretta Lauretig.
Fr. Don attended Loyola University in Chicago, IL, from 1964 to 1969 and earned an M.Ed. in Counseling and Guidance. In 1960, he earned his Philosophy degree at the Dominican House of Studies in River Forest, IL. Fr. Don earned a B.A. in Theology at St. Rose Priory in Dubuque, IA in 1963.
Fr. Don joined the Province of St. Albert the Great in 1956 at St. Peter Martyr Priory in Winona, MN, where he professed simple vows on August 31, 1957. He professed solemn vows on August 31, 1960, at the Dominican House of Studies in River Forest, IL. Fr. Don was ordained to the Diaconate in 1962 and to the Priesthood on April 15, 1963 at St. Rose Priory in Dubuque, IA. In 1980, Fr. Don joined the Province of St. Martin de Porres.
Fr. Don began his ministerial career as a religion teacher and counselor at Mount Carmel High School in New Orleans, LA. In 1966, he moved to Houston, TX, to be a religion teacher, counselor, and Chaplain at St. Pius High School. From 1972 to 1981, Fr. Don was the administrator and a counselor at Bishop Lynch High School in Dallas, TX. Fr. Don’s next assignment was as Socius to the Provincial and Personnel Director in New Orleans, LA. For a year Fr. Don was the Associate Pastor at St. Dominic School in New Orleans, LA, before becoming Pastor at St. Peter Church in Memphis, TN, for the next eight years. During this time, he was also a Chaplain at the Cenacle Retreat Center. Returning to New Orleans, LA, Fr. Don served as Pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church and then St. Dominic Church. In 2010, he moved to Irving, TX, where he would remain until his death. He served as Rector of the Church of the Incarnation and Chaplain at the University of Dallas until his retirement in 2017.
