The readings today remind us of the threats and dangers that we are faced with in this world. Not only forces of nature like wind and flood, but also our own fellow human beings rise up against us, even our countrymen, even our supposed friends. To whom do we turn in these times of distress? Can our own actions, defenses, thoughts, and words help to protect us? Where is refuge and safety?
We just have to be humble enough to ask our Father and our Lord for the strength, help, and the understanding we need in times of trouble. Christ is where we are called to place our hope and our trust. The love of God is the rock to which we can cling; the refuge, the safe harbor where we can find true peace.
