March 30, 2021The first sentence of today’s Gospel talks about betrayal. The last sentence of today’s Gospel talks about denying Jesus. We are clearly headed for something gloomy. Betrayal and denial are rearing their ugly head as Jesus prepares to enter his passion. We often associate the passion with the physical pain and torture that Jesus endured, but there was also the suffering caused by his disciples and followers. Judas literally sold him out, and Peter denied him three times.
Judas and Peter both failed Jesus. But what each did with those failures is something we can learn from as disciples of Jesus. We will fail, we will sin, we will let ourselves, others, and Jesus down. But when that happens, we return, we ask forgiveness, and we pray to grow in faith and trust.
