We have a great intercessor for us in heaven, one who knows our Lord and prays for us incessantly. We know that she is great because of the revelation that St. John saw and wrote in the book of Revelation. The Virgin Mary is a great sign of God’s triumph because God protected her amid evil. Thus, we are promised life when we live according to the example that Christ, our Savior, gives us. The Mother of God is in heaven praying for us that we may live that life, closely molded after our blessed Lord. As a mother, she wants us to hear the same words that her cousin Elizabeth said to her, “Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.”Reflexión por Fray Carlos Salas, OP:
Tenemos a una gran intercesora de nosotros en el cielo, una que conoce a nuestro Señor y ora por nosotros incesantemente. Sabemos que ella es prodigiosa por la revelación que san Juan vio y escribió en el Libro del Apocalipsis. La Virgen María es un gran signo del triunfo de Dios porque Dios la protegió en medio del mal. Entonces, se nos ha prometido la vida cuando vivimos de acuerdo al ejemplo que Cristo, nuestro Salvador, nos da. La Madre de Dios es en el cielo orando por nosotros para que vivamos esa vida, cercanamente moldeada de nuestro bendito Señor. Como una madre, quiere que escuchemos las mismas palabras que su prima Isabel le dijo a ella, “Dichosa/o tú, que has creído, porque se cumplirá cuanto te fue anunciado de parte del Señor.”Something to think about: - The Blessed Virgin Mary was assumed into heaven, body and soul, by her own Son. It isn’t the month of May, but what a beautiful gift that our Lord gave to honor His Mother. After all, we don’t have to honor our mothers only once a year, but we can be grateful for mother figures in our lives at any time during the year. Who are the mother figures in my life who have led me in the life of Christian virtue? What gift could I offer to her/them this week (e.g., a prayer, a phone call, a letter, a visit, something creative, or something else she might like)?
- The Virgin Mary was pregnant in the reading from Revelation, and the word “womb” appears three times in today’s Gospel. The theme of maternity is evident today. We recite the words of Elizabeth at least 50 times when we pray the rosary: “blessed is the fruit of your womb.” These words recognize and honor the sanctity of life in the womb, the fruit of God’s blessing. Let us offer one Hail Mary today for all people who are alive in their mother’s womb, that they may receive God’s love through their parents and loved ones.

Algo en que pensar: - La Bendita Virgen María fue asumida al cielo, cuerpo y alma, por su propio Hijo. No es el mes de mayo, pero que gran regalo que nuestro Señor le dio para honorar a Su Madre. Después de todo, no solamente debemos de honrar a nuestras madres una vez al año. ¿Quiénes son las figuras maternas en mi vida que me han guiado en una vida de virtud cristiana? ¿Qué podría ofrecerles como regalo a ella/ellas esta semana (e.g., una oración, una llamada telefónica, una carta, una visita, algo creativo, o algo más que a ella le pueda gustar)?
- La Virgen María estaba embarazada en la lectura del Apocalipsis, y la palabra “vientre” aparece tres veces en el Evangelio de hoy. El tema de la maternidad es evidente hoy. Recitamos las palabras de Isabel por lo menos 50 veces cuando rezamos el rosario: “bendito el fruto de tu vientre.” Estas palabras reconocen y le dan honor a la santidad de la vida en el vientre, el fruto de la bendición de Dios. Ofrezcamos un Avemaría hoy por todas las personas que viven en el vientre de sus madres, que reciban el amor de Dios a través de sus padres y seres queridos.
