God has done things that were never before seen; nothing can be compared to His involvement with us from the moment of creation. “Did anything so great happen before?” Asks Moses. We hear God’s voice through fire. We saw this both in the Old Testament, to which Moses is referring, and at Pentecost when tongues of fire rested upon the disciples. God speaks through fire and gives us His saving message of adoption by God. We accept this invitation of adoption when we are baptized in the name of God, of the Holy Trinity, as Jesus commanded us, “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”Reflexión por Fray Carlos Salas, OP:
Dios ha hecho cosas que nunca jamás se habían visto; nada puede compararse con su involucramiento con nosotros desde el momento de la creación. “Se oyó algo semejante?” dice Moisés. Escuchamos la voz de Dios a través del fuego. Vimos estos ambos en el Antiguo Testamento, a lo que se refiere Moisés, y en Pentecostés cuando las lenguas de fuego descendieron sobre los discípulos. Dios habla a través del fuego y nos da Su mensaje de salvación de adopción por Dios. Aceptamos esta invitación de adopción cuando somos bautizados en el nombre de Dios, de la Santísima Trinidad, como Jesucristo nos lo ordenó, “en el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo.”Something to think about: - We invoke God every time we make the sign of the cross. A powerful sign filled with meaning: I am baptized, God has adopted me, I call upon the Lord’s help, may God’s will be done. Do I openly make the sign of the cross, even in public or with strangers? Why is this? What does it say about my relationship with God?
- St. Paul tells us that we received a Spirit of adoption at our Baptism, not one of slavery. We are not slaves to sin. The message is the same to us as we received it from the mouth of Moses; we must keep the Lord’s statutes and commandments that we may prosper. God’s adoption gives us freedom from sin when we follow His law.
Algo en que pensar: - Invocamos a Dios cada vez que nos hacemos la señal de la cruz. Una señal llena de significado: soy bautizado, Dios me ha adoptado, llamo al auxilio del Señor, que se haga la voluntad de Dios. ¿Hago abiertamente la señal de la cruz, aún en público o con desconocidos? ¿Por qué es esto? ¿Qué me dice acerca de mi relación con Dios?
- San Pablo nos dice que recibimos un Espíritu de hijos, de adopción, no uno de esclavos. No somos esclavos al pecado. Este mensaje es el mismo para nosotros hoy como lo recibimos de la boca de Moisés; debemos cumplir y mantener las leyes y mandamientos del Señor para ser feliz. La adopción de Dios nos da la libertad del pecado cuando seguimos Su ley.
