Today’s readings focus on God's infinite mercy and compassion. Isaiah’s prophecy tells of God's plan of salvation for His people in opening heaven to all who believe in Him and that all will be rejoicing. “The things of the past shall not be remembered or come to mind” can easily be seen as a reference to the sacrament of Reconciliation. All of which will come to pass after Jesus’ resurrection.
Psalm 30 recalls God's salvation of His people historically but can also be our song today when we put our trust in Him.
The Gospel continues the theme of God's compassion and mercy despite our human failings. Throughout history, the people of God have demanded signs and wonders and yet God continues to pour out His mercy and healing! He has told us to trust in Him, that He only wishes good for us and will always be with us. Yet time and again we require proof. We must ask ourselves: Why do we believe? Do we require evidence, or do we put our trust in His promises?
