Isaiah writes: “Just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down
And do not return there till they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful, giving seed to the one who sows and bread to the one who eats.” Spring is coming. This is the time that the weather turns warmer. Farmers begin to plant their crops. Hopefully, there will be enough rain and sunshine to enable the seeds to sprout and grow to provide food for the hungry.
Isaiah also writes: "So shall God’s Word that goes forth from my mouth;
It shall not return to me void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it." In this first week of Lent, it is time to look into our hearts to see how God’s word has taken root in our lives. It is the time to see what weeds have grown up and need to be pruned from our lives so that we can plant new ways of acting and nourish them into holy habits that will help us produce good works and grow into a deeper relationship with God. May your Lenten practices take root to deepen your relationship with God and help the world to become a more peaceful place.
