God raised this Jesus; of this we are all witnesses.
Of this we are all witnesses…
When we speak of the Dominican Charism and the centrality of preaching the Truth, we mean being a witness to the resurrection to which belongs every member of the baptized. By the very nature of the grace which floods our soul and to which we have been joined to Christ, have died and been raised, we are witnesses of the resurrection. We have experienced it! The risen Christ is in us and is closer to us than we are to ourselves. What a gift! Already this life has put on immortality.
The question is: Do we believe this? In a world that continues to be filled with pain, bitterness, mistrust, division, and dysfunction, what the world needs is the Risen Christ, whose light scatters our darkness and whose warmth heals the brokenness of our souls.
It is often tempting to take from the Gospels moral obligations apart from Jesus. Jesus can become a nice a story about a nice teacher or prophet who teaches us to be kind, loving, gentle, and generous, but if this is what we believe, we can no longer be a true witness because the resurrection is stripped of its power.
However, if we believe that God raised this Jesus from the dead, then we are all witnesses, and if so, then our life can manifest its power and glory to a world that needs the Risen Christ. Has the resurrection of Christ affected us in such a way that he is professed on our lips, held in our hearts, and glorified in our works?
Christ is Risen, and we are risen in him, and so we give witness to the gift of the truth of God bearing our nature burst apart the prison bars of death and destruction.
