"My soul waits …."
Perhaps, when Abram was asked – and especially when he asked himself – where he was going, and why, he had to learn to make this his prayer:
"My soul waits for the Lord."
In many ways, it is the prayer the Lord is teaching each of us during this Lenten season. Through the guidance of the Church; through the Mass and the sacraments, especially the Eucharist and the Sacrament of Reconciliation; through Sacred Scripture as it forms our prayer, penance, and acts of selfless self-giving: in all these ways the Lord Jesus works His design for holiness within us. As we seek to listen to Him, He takes us apart and quietly makes Himself more deeply known to us.
We discover the depths of His mercy and love – and we are changed.
