There are no shortcuts in the recipe for growth in holiness. The prophetess, Anna, through her relentless searching for decades among what must have been thousands of infants brought to the Temple over those decades, provides us with the ingredients needed in order to assure our meeting face to face with our Redeemer. We must persevere in our pursuit of avoiding sin, discipline our disordered passions through fasting and other forms of mortification, and pray night and day. Anna had a choice after having been widowed to either seek the things of this world or to seek the things above. Because she chose the latter, she was rewarded through the hands of Our Blessed Mother herself with the reception of the Love of the Father.
The Love of the Father awaits us night and day in the tabernacles of the world, in the daily Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and in the reception of the Holy Eucharist. Let us, like Anna, approach Him with hearts well-seasoned so as to be prepared to recognize Him and receive Him worthily as food from the hands of Our Holy Mother the Church and remain with Him forever.
Dear Jesus, I am not worthy to receive You. Behold only Mary, your Mother and ours.
