Darkness. Thick clouds covering everything. Was Isaiah predicting the setting of the latest news in January of 2020? His words seem an all-too appropriate description of the times we live in. We can feel ourselves all-too inadequate to change it. Clouds and darkness can be overwhelming - but -
“…upon you the LORD shines, and over you appears his glory.” The blazing radiance of the Truth we celebrate at Christmas changes everything. The world will never be the same. Ever. In the Fire of Love that He is, God has become man. He has become one of us, one with us. Even within me “the Lord shines.” If I receive Him, open myself to Him with the Magi’s simple surrender of faith, then his grace becomes a fire inside me. I am somehow different. I go about my daily life, ordinary as it seems, “by a different way.” The Mystery of Christmas draws me into its Light, and through my life of faith, nourished by the sacraments, the Lord Jesus dispels the darkness.
