What a blessing to have received life from God through our parents while they were still young. Some of them maybe not as young as others. But, none of them were as old as Zechariah and Elizabeth. Imagine being told by an angel that you will conceive at such an old age. What would you have done? Would you have believed him?
Yet, Zechariah and Elizabeth were faithful to God's word following all the precepts and all the commandments laid out for the Jewish people. Their faith was strong. Even so, Zachariah questioned.
As we approach the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, let us question our faith. Let us question where we are today in comparison to where we were a year ago. Are we a more convicted follower of Christ; or, are we merely following a routine? Are we doing what we used to do day after day and not really paying attention to what is around us? Jesus did not sit still when he saw injustice. Can we change? Do we need to be shocked just like Zechariah? Being mindful of why we pray and realizing what a gift we have to be able to pray is a good first step. But Christ wants more from us. Are we ready?
