Last Words
Last words can be significant. My dad’s were usually, "Remember, you’re a Wieloszynski." It didn’t matter whether we were going out to play, to school, to church, to college, his loving concern followed us in hopes that we would stay out of trouble, do our best, and not betray the values he and Mom instilled in us.
As the Hebrew people were about to enter new territory, Moses, his own death at hand, earnestly urged them to remember who they were. He sent them off with deep love, high hopes and solemn warnings: “Hear the statutes and decrees... Observe them carefully... Take care... Be earnestly on your guard... Teach (God’s commandments to) your children and to your children’s children.”
Lent offers us an opening to enter new territory, gratefully following Jesus to Jerusalem where He embraced our sin in unthinkable suffering. His ineffable love and mercy beckon us. Let's cleanse our souls with penance and sacrifice. Expand our hearts and minds with holy study and loyal service. Encourage one another. Anticipating His resurrection and our transformation, let’s steadfastly obey and teach His commandments. Friends, faithfully we go forth with members of the Dominican Family and other believers, by His grace and mercy, to redeem our families, our Church, the land we occupy. Heaven awaits. Remember who we are.
